Sonoma County has been home since I was sixteen, when my family moved here from Peru.
I built my path one step at a time. UC Merced for my bachelor's in human biology, a master's in public health at Touro University, medical school at UC Davis, and a family medicine residency at Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa. Along the way I spent close to a decade in research, much of it at UCSF, studying how patients use technology long before the current wave of AI.
Today I practice comprehensive family medicine at a federally qualified health center, caring for a community that is largely Spanish-speaking and Medicaid-insured. I came back to the same clinic that gave me my immunizations when I first arrived in this country. Caring for this community is one of the meaningful chapters of my work so far.
I care for patients in both English and Spanish. For many of my patients, being understood in their own language changes what the visit can do.
As one of the few Latina family physicians working in digital health, I carry both personal perspective and professional experience into every room I am in, whether that is the exam room, a community meeting, a policy hearing, or a conversation about the future of AI in medicine.
